Ensilumi literally means “first snow”. And for us, these photos were the first snow we experienced in Finland so far.

Although it looks dark and gray, there is a distinct beauty that can’t be captured by photos. The contrast of the green spruces against the brilliant white snow is amazing to see, like little bits of life amongst desolation, or a handful of olives amongst cheese.

With a blue sky, the contrasts stand out even more:

Ironically, despite it being cold enough for the sky to spew frozen precipitation on the ground, walking around gets very hot quickly due to dressing up like a Michelin man. I’ve never been this hot and cold simultaneously without being sick.
